Every fraction of a degree the coupling takes up is cyclic stress — into the element, and into the bearings on both machines behind it.
The elastomer cracks, the grid frets, the disc pack loses pretension. Torque keeps going through the whole time, so nothing on the floor changes.
Then an element lets go, and it gets written up as a coupling failure.
A coupling that is still driving the pump and a coupling that is healthy are not the same thing. One of them is a countdown you cannot see.
When a coupling element is replaced on your site, does anyone establish why it wore, or does the new one just go in?

Reading what a worn element says about the alignment behind it is part of what OMNIX does. If elements are being changed on a schedule rather than a cause, that pattern is worth looking at. The failed assembly is opened and examined where it failed, measured against limits, and the contributing factors — operating, maintenance or installation — are separated, not blended, ending in a prioritised list of what has to change so it does not happen again. On machines under equipment health monitoring, vibration, temperature and performance are trended against a baseline set on the first visit.
